Unemployment of highly-skilled workers is on the rise
Meri Heikkilä, a 26-year-old Finnish and literature teacher, has yet to find employment after her fixed-term contract expired at the end of July.
Heikkilä estimates that the number of job vacancies has decreased since she graduated from a university two years ago. “It feels like municipalities are hiring temps on shorter-term contracts than before,” she says.
